Date Nights

Date Night! I hear those words and get excited. My husband hears them and its a whole different story. I am a sucker for romance, and well, he is not! Like a lot of parents we have a hard time getting time away without our kids, but alone time together plays an important part in a healthy marriage. We don’t have as many date nights as we’d like, but we are trying. We are also trying to bring fun to our date nights. In the past, our date nights included a sub-par meal and a drive around town because we don’t know what else to do. We try to come up with something exciting because we a sitter for at least another hour, but we usually fail miserably. The date ends up at Wal-Mart to pick up some essentials for the kids. We get home wondering why we paid a babysitter for that.

We could blame living in small town Iowa for the not-so-stellar time, but we should really blame our lack of finding joy in the simple things, being afraid to get a little dirty (take that however you want *wink*), and not using our imaginations.  Sure, in a city there would be a plethora of restaurants, theaters, and entertainment at our fingertips, but it wouldn’t quite be like the dates we can think up on our own. There are so many fun and exciting dates we should have been having over the years. Yes, it does take some creativity and a little planning at times, but having a happy marriage is worth it if you ask me.

Take a look at our date night ideas so you can start thinking up some of your own fun. You never know where these dates will lead!
